Request:  Authority for the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the “Forest Preserves”) to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement (“IGA”) with the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (“CCDOTH”)  

 

Goods or Services:  CCDOTH is proposing to transfer a portion of new motor fuel tax funds provided through the Rebuild Illinois capital bill for various Forest Preserves transportation improvements.

Fiscal Impact:  Revenue Generating - up to $25 million in reimbursement anticipated

Summary:  CCDOTH is proposing to transfer up to $25 million in new motor fuel tax funding provided through the Rebuild Illinois capital bill to address transportation improvement needs identified in the Forest Preserves’ 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan.  Transportation improvements would include, but not be limited to, engineering (preliminary, design and construction), resurfacing or repaving, ADA improvements and pedestrian safety improvements. The IGA includes a pre-approval process for submission of Forest Preserves’ projects for reimbursement. The Forest Preserves would use the funds to hire engineering consultants and contractors to perform the work.
