Summary: The Forest Preserves of Cook County (the “Forest Preserves”) is requesting authority to extend contract #74000009403 with Meru Corporation for construction services related to a grant-funded hydrologic restoration project at Powderhorn Lake. The proposed extension is required to complete the reconnection of the northern marsh of Powderhorn Lake to Wolf Lake and final soil grading. Construction itself is substantially complete but experienced significant delays due to a combination of wet site conditions and issues related to the reengineering and permitting of an undisclosed pipeline.
Up to $300,000.00 in match was previously authorized by the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners on 11/15/2022 (Board Item No. 22-0496) to be expensed as grant match to account for supplemental engineering design and construction services outside of the original scope of work. $265,000.00 of this amount was allocated for construction. Upon completion, the project will provide a mechanism for restoring natural water levels to Powderhorn Lake and adjacent wetlands that support habitat for native and migratory marsh birds and promote movement of a greater diversity of fish species throughout the water system.
