Summary: ComEd is seeking to support the use of very high efficiency Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems through its Emerging Technologies grant program. The $300,000.00 proposed grant to the Forest Preserves will support the Forest Preserves' replacement of existing gas-fired boilers and inefficient mechanical systems at the Forest Preserves' General Headquarters with all-electric heating, ventilating, and cooling system (see related Board Item No. 23-0018). The Forest Preserves will also be addressing building envelope deficiencies to reduce the amount of energy needed. The new system will advance the Forest Preserves' Sustainability and Climate Resiliency Plan by reducing the Forest Preserves impact on the effects of global climate change. ComEd will provide half the grant funds upon execution of the agreement and disburse the second half upon completion of construction.
