PROPOSED BID RECOMMENDATION
Department: Department of Planning and Development
Request: Authorization for the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the "Forest Preserves") to enter into a construction contract with Burling Builders, Inc., primary place of business Chicago, Illinois, for the Caldwell Woods warming shelter located in Chicago.
Reason: Contract #74000011349 issued under Project #21-80-28 Building and Site Renovations at Caldwell Woods Warming Shelter. The project will renovate the existing warming shelter building to offer year-round recreation and wellness programs, and visitor information on nearby recreation facilities, natural resources, and volunteer opportunities. The project will improve accessibility, energy efficiency, wayfinding, and other related concerns. Renovations include a new entrance, redesigned and refreshed interior spaces, energy-efficient lighting, HVAC system replacements, access improvements, outdoor gathering spaces, signage and other related work as specified in the plans and specifications. This work is funded by Forest Preserves' Construction and Development funds, Capital Improvement Funds and a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Park and Recreational Facility Construction (PARC) grant program, Board Item No. 21-0316.
