Summary: The original scope of work for this contract was for architectural and engineering services for the replacement of existing old and inefficient heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at the Forest Preserves’ General Headquarters (GHQ) building.
Diagnostic testing conducted under the original contract scope of work revealed the existing building envelope has severe air leaks that need correction to meet the energy efficiency performance requirements. Additional work is needed for design, energy modeling, bidding and construction administration for storm window alternatives. In addition, after the start of the project, an existing newer HVAC system, that was beyond its warranty period, failed and needs to be replaced. This replacement was not included in the original scope and will require additional design to integrate this unanticipated work with the proposed high efficiency system.
The original RFP for this project was solicited publicly and two (2) firms submitted proposals. A selection committee reviewed the proposals and determined Interface Engineering to be the most responsive.
