Summary: The Forest Preserves has applied for a Fast Track Public Infrastructure grant under the Illinois DCEO Rebuild Illinois program. The Forest Preserves is seeking this award for $1,495,000.00 to improve the safety, accessibility and amenities at a public forest preserve and promote eco-tourism in an economically disadvantaged area in South Cook County. The grant would be used to reconstruct deteriorated access roads and parking areas, repair and improve the accessibility of the existing launch, construct a new shelter and add wayfinding and interpretive signs to enhance outdoor education and recreation programs for youth and adults.
If the Forest Preserves is awarded the requested grant it is anticipated that the Forest Preserves would be required to break ground on the above-described project within sixty (60) days of the award. The Forest Preserves requests permission to accept the grant, in any amount, if awarded. The grant award will require the execution of a grant agreement, which will be subject to legal review and approval.
