Summary: The Forest Preserves' wildlife section utilizes telemetry equipment to collect spatial-temporal data for the purpose of tracking a variety of mammals, herptiles, fish, and avian species affixed with encoded transmitters for wildlife research programs. Satellite-based transmitters with global positioning system (GPS) capabilities require additional location and pinging fees, which provide location information at a specified frequency that can be adjusted to meet research objectives. Current rates as of June 2020 are $30.00 per month for data accession, plus $0.04 per acquired fix.
