Summary: On 10/17/2023, the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners approved the acceptance of grant funding from IDNR’s RTP funds for the Forest Preserves to design and construct improvements for 1 mile of the black connector trail that, while modest in length, serves as a critical spur to the 9.1 mile Tinley Creek red trail loop (Board Item No. 23-0507). The awarded funds of $188,000.00 will support the improvement of the trail access parking area at Catalina Grove, in Orland Township, by resurfacing the pavement and installing upgraded ADA curb ramps and detectable warnings. The Forest Preserves anticipates funding the remaining project cost with motor fuel tax funds provided by the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways through a separate intergovernmental agreement (Board Item No. 20-0007). A no-cost time extension of the grant agreement for twelve (12) months to 9/14/2027, is being requested to allow for completion of the project.
