Summary: A contract increase and short extension is needed for additional work driven by site condition changes since the time of design and bidding. A collapsed sewer under Harlem Avenue caused severe creek erosion affecting the stability of the adjacent Tinley Creek Trail, requiring additional storm sewer, erosion control measures and landscape restoration in lieu of simple resurfacing. Additional topsoil and pavement resurfacing work were also determined necessary by the construction engineer to achieve the intended plan designs at Carlson Springs Woods, Chicago Portage Trail, Oak Forest Heritage Trail, Sauk Woods Central, and Major Taylor Trail. The project was originally approved by the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners on 7/26/2022 (Board Item No. 22-0307).
