Summary: The Forest Preserves is requesting an extension of the contract with Niles Animal Hospital for veterinary service for the Ambassador Animal program through the end of the year. We will be issuing a new Request for Proposals or Qualifications for veterinary services this year and need the additional time to go through that process. While we are awaiting bids we need to have a licensed veterinarian on contract to care for our Ambassador Animals. The original contract was awarded based on a 2020 RFP. At that time, it was determined that the MBE/WBE goal would be set at zero due to the nature of the contract and the lack of options for subcontractors. With the Forest Preserves’ new Ambassador Animal protocols in place, we are considering a Request for Qualifications in order to contract with more veterinarians from around the county and closer to all the different Nature Centers.
