Summary: The Forest Preserves seeks authorization to amend and extend an existing intergovernmental agreement with IDNR. Under the existing intergovernmental agreement, the parties agreed to collaborate on the removal of seven (7) dams on the Des Plaines River and North Branch of the Chicago River. Six (6) of the seven (7) dams have been removed to date. The parties would like to amend the agreement to add an eighth dam, Tam O’Shanter on the North Branch of the Chicago River. In addition to adding an eighth dam, the parties would like to extend the agreement to allow time for the removal of Tam O’Shanter and the Chick Evans Dam. The original fiscal impact was $1.6 million, however, IDNR provided an initial advance of $500,000.00 in May of 2015, reducing the fiscal impact to $1.1 million. There is no additional fiscal impact for the proposed amendment. Final amendment is subject to legal review and approval.
