Summary:  Requesting authorization to extend the grant agreement through May 2024. The grant award supports the Forest Preserves in its inclusive community outreach efforts to develop a Community Engagement Plan and to install a series of wayfinding and interpretative signs at Eggers Grove. This 240-acre site is one (1) of only a handful of forest preserves located within the City of Chicago, but despite this, and the remarkable nature and outdoor recreation opportunities it offers, the site is currently underutilized. The proposed activities will be designed to build awareness of these assets and increase use, and appreciation of, Eggers Grove. The original grant agreement deadline was October 1, 2023.  IDNR encouraged the Forest Preserves to apply for an extension due to the NOAA environmental review process taking longer than expected.
