Summary: On 9/22/2020, the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners approved the acceptance of grant funding from the Forest Preserve Foundation through the Resilient Communities Program administered in partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Wells Fargo (Board Item No. 20-0320). The Forest Preserves has been sub-awarded a portion of these funds to support 180 acres of ecological restoration at Sweet Woods preserve in the Village of Thornton in southeastern Cook County.
A no-cost extension of the grant is being requested to allow for supplemental restoration work within the existing project footprint to be completed during the winter of 2022. Achieved cost efficiencies in the original scope of work made this additional work possible.
