Summary: The Forest Preserves has partnered with UICVM since 2008 to conduct on-demand wildlife pathology and diagnostic services undertaken in association with wildlife research initiatives. This work allows Forest Preserves wildlife biologists to track changes in disease transmittal in wildlife communities and assess how those diseases may affect human populations. Information acquired through this analysis is dispersed throughout the health services community to better inform them of potential risks of zoonotic disease transmission.

This IGA was originally approved by the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners on 3/11/2014 (Board Item No. 14-0122), and subsequently amended on 10/24/2017 (Board Item No. 17-0356) to extend the program for an additional five-year term ending in 2022. The Forest Preserves now seeks to add up to $600,000.00 in authority over ten (10) years, bringing the total program costs to approximately $1,090,000.00 over nineteen (19) years.
