PROPOSED INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT

Request: Authority for the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the “Forest Preserves”) to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement (“IGA”) with the Village of Hoffman Estates, Illinois (the “Village”)
Goods or Services: The Village of Hoffman Estates is requesting an IGA to allow for the use of a former Resident Watchman residence in Hoffman Estates, Illinois to be used for fire personnel training purposes, including search, rescue, and live fire drills. At the termination of the agreement, the Village will demise the structure by fire, obviating the need to demolish the unused building.

Summary: The Forest Preserves owns a former Resident Watchman residence at 576 Higgins Rd., in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The Village has requested the use of the residence for fire training purposes, including live fire drills, for three (3) years. The residence is not currently in use, and the Forest Preserves desires savings on the cost of demolition. The Village would be allowed to use the residence for fire rescue training drills, including live fire condition simulations. At the conclusion of three (3) years, the Village would burn the residence to the ground, saving the Forest Preserves the cost of demolition. The Village would obtain all necessary permits at its expense for any live fire drills, with the exception of asbestos testing and abatement, which the Forest Preserves agrees to conduct at its expense, if necessary.
