Summary: The City of Evanston owns transportation rights-of-way adjacent to Colfax Street, Grant Street, and Ewing Avenue that directly border Perkins Woods, which is property of the Forest Preserves. The proposed IGA would grant the Forest Preserves and its agents, including ecological stewardship volunteers, limited access to these rights-of-way for the purpose of conducting cooperative restoration and management activities, centered primarily on invasive plant control. Collective management of invasive species within Perkins Woods and its connected rights-of-way will improve efficiency and achieve more positive ecological outcomes than the Forest Preserves and the City of Evanston can attain on their respective properties by working individually.
