Summary:  The Forest Preserves has been awarded grant funds that will support the acquisition of a 70-acre parcel in southeast Cook County, Illinois. The parcel contains a stretch of Deer Creek, a tributary of the Little Calumet River system. The goal of the acquisition would be to protect important natural resources, improve water quality along Deer Creek, and provide flood control benefits and outdoor recreation within an economically impacted area. $10,000.00 of the awarded amount will be spent to begin restoring the site. The grant will fund 80% of the cost of the acquisition, with the Forest Preserves providing an approximately 20% match not to exceed $212,000.00.  The acquisition advances the goals of the Forest Preserves’ Southeast Cook County Land Acquisition Plan and the Next Century Conservation Plan.end
