Summary: The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has a voluntary program to train participants from the Vocational Rehabilitation Impact Center to provide deconstruction and building material salvage services. Upon completion of the program, each participant receives basic carpentry and building material reuse training and an OSHA 10-hour safety certificate. The Forest Preserves seeks authority to continue to use this program to remove unneeded buildings from recently acquired properties and other properties as needed. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sheriff’s Office was unable to demolish as many structures as they had planned to in the previous amendment period. The Forest Preserves is seeking to extend the agreement for three (3) years and to increase funding to cover these sites and several others listed in the amended agreement. $184,839.00 in contract value was previously approved by the Board of Commissioners (Board Item No. 16-0234). Final amendment is subject to legal review and approval.
