Summary: The Forest Preserves is requesting to extend its stewardship and restoration agreement with Openlands to facilitate the continued preservation, maintenance, and management of the Deer Grove East OMMA site for an additional two and one-half (2 1/2) years. The original agreement was approved by the Forest Preserves’ Board of Commissioners on June 7, 2016, per Board Item No. 16-0230.
Additional time is being requested in order to continue projects needed to sustain and build upon the successful restoration efforts undertaken at Deer Grove East during the initial large-scale habitat enhancement project, which concluded in 2016. All work on the initial project and subsequent management at the site have been paid for by Openlands using OMMA funds, which provide mitigation of off-site wetland impacts resulting from the O’Hare Modernization Program. The cumulative value of the work provided to-date by Openlands under this stewardship agreement, and anticipated to be provided under the proposed extension, is valued at up to $885,000.00. This agreement calls for no direct cost to the Forest Preserves.
