The Woodcock, a drab and comical looking bird, makes a beautiful spiral flight in spring as part of its courtship. It happens just before dark when the males give an unmusical “peent” call, spiral up into the dark sky, land, then do it again. We will meet at Wolf Road Prairie in Westchester to try to see this amazing rite of spring. The walk will be on uneven ground in dark conditions. Registration and facemasks required.
