Open Nature Play Day, Dan Ryan Woods, Chicago
Register your play group, day care, or homeschool for this hour-long open nature play time. Enjoy the new Dan Ryan Woods Nature Play space while helping your children connect with nature. Registration and facemasks required.

Fitness Hike: Deer Grove, Deer Grove West, Palatine
Celebrate National Take A Hike Day in this fast-paced, fitness hike through Deer Grove. This hike will be just over 5 miles of mixed terrain, so be prepared for a workout with sturdy shoes and long pants. Registration and facemasks required.

National Take a Hike Day: History & Photography Walk, Chicago Portage National Historic Site, Chicago
In celebration of National Take a Hike Day, grab your camera and get ready to learn the history of this unique site within the Forest Preserves! Expect a guided walk with stopping points along the way to discuss the history of the site and to snap some pictures. Advanced cameras and camera phones both work just fine. Registration and facemasks required.

“I Am a Scientist,” Little Red Schoolhouse, Willow Springs
Join a Naturalist as we conduct an experiment that demonstrates how plants reach the light they love, also known as phototropism.

River Trail Nightlife: Owl Prowl, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook
A guided walk on our trail to search for local owls. Registration and facemasks required. Fee: $3/person.

Explore: Horsetail Lake, Horsetail Lake, Palos Park
Adults and families, come explore with us at Horsetail Lake! You can do so by grabbing a self-guided exploration activity, or join our staff on one of our guided hikes. We will have a litter pickup if you would like to help in cleaning up the preserve, a fire to warm up by, and a take-home nature activity for you to continue your adventure at home.
