Summary: Canoe and kayak rentals at the Tampier Lake Boat House operated on a reduced schedule during the 2020 season because of restrictions related to COVID-19 as required by the State of Illinois's Restore Illinois plan, as well as limited capacity of boats and personal floatation devices, which were given seventy-two (72) hours of down time between each use. The Boat House did not open until early June (as opposed to mid-April in a typical year) and was only open two (2) days per week thereafter. Through August 31, 2020, the Forest Preserves' boat rental vendor, Chicago River Canoe and Kayak, experienced an approximately 58% reduction in typical season revenue.
