Request: Requesting authorization for the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the "Forest Preserves") to enter into a Partnership Agreement with the Nazurus Foundation, Chicago, Illinois.

Reason: The Forest Preserves desires to partner with the Nazurus Foundation to facilitate ecological restoration in the Palos preserves in southwest Cook County. Time and resources contributed by the Nazurus Foundation will be used generally for restoration activities, approved by the Forest Preserves, including but not limited to invasive species control, brush removal, herbicide application, and native seed dispersal at various sites. The Nazurus Foundation plans to contribute services valued at up to $50,000.00 per year, at no cost to the Forest Preserves.

The work conducted by the Nazurus Foundation will supplement work being done by the Forest Preserves in the Palos region to connect restored sites together, improving habitat connectivity and bolstering the Forest Preserves' effectiveness. They will also assist with follow-up treatments/maintenance of locations where work was previously completed, ensuring the longevity of restoration projects. Funding and contractual management services will be provided by the Foundation, at no direct cost to the Forest Preserves.

The Nazurus Foundation has a mission to partner with local governments and not-for-profit organizations in the southwest Chicagoland region to preserve and restore the native biodiversity of natural lands. The Forest Preserves wishes to partner with the Nazurus Foundation to assist in coordinating the proposed restoration activities. All projects will be subject to review and approval by the Forest Preserves prior to proceeding.

Contract period: Date of execution - 12/31/2025

Fiscal Impact: N/A. The Forest Preserves may provide in-kind staff support for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of projects.
