The Forest Preserves were sub-awarded a portion of these funds to complete 56 acres of wetland restoration at Thornton-Lansing Road Nature Preserve in south Cook County, in addition to 18 acres of wetland swale and adjacent upland habitat at Powderhorn Prairie and Marsh Nature Preserve in Burnham.

A no-cost extension of the grant is being requested to allow for remaining restoration tasks to be completed under suitable conditions to minimize impacts to the surrounding landscape, and facilitate supplemental monitoring activities. Total project costs for the Forest Preserves’ portion of the project are $340,000.00, with a 50/50 match contribution by each partner.
