Summary: MWRD proposes to repair, rehabilitate, and replace a levee along the west side of the Des Plaines River from 45th Street to Lawndale Avenue, known as the McCook Levee, to protect commercial and residential structures from flooding. MWRD will complete the proposed work and assume future maintenance responsibility for the levee pursuant to an agreement for project design and construction with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the proposed IGA. The proposed 3.58-acre permanent easement will provide access and right of entry to MWRD and the Corps for the construction, operation and maintenance of the levee on Forest Preserves property. Under the IGA, the Forest Preserves will have record keeping and reporting obligations, as well as use restrictions, in relation to MWRD funding certain improvements with bond funds.

A two-block portion of the Salt Creek Trail will be closed and temporary access to an on-street detour provided during the construction period. Tree mitigation and other fees will be waived for MWRD consistent with a Memorandum of Understanding providing for mutual waiver of fees between MWRD and the Forest Preserves approved on May 11, 2017.
