Summary: This Cooperative Services Agreement will enable the US Army Engineers, Chicago District to provide planning assistance to the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the “Forest Preserves”) and other partners, to develop a comprehensive plan that will help protect the health of the rivers that flow through the Forest Preserves including portions of the following: North branch of the Chicago River; Sanitary and Ship Canal; Little Calumet, Grand Calumet and Calumet Rivers. This plan would identify steps to manage, restore and develop these waterways that support the health of people and nature.
The development of such a comprehensive plan would allow the Forest Preserves to leverage resources and expertise for the benefit of the public lands under its care and the residents of Cook County. Final agreement is subject to legal review and approval.
