Explore the nature center and its grounds while learning about the Forest Preserves of Cook County.

 

Wednesday, 10/23; 4pm - 6pm

Archery 101, Rubio Woods, Midlothian

Learn proper techniques and bow basics from one-on-one instruction from certified staff. All levels. Ages 10 and up.

 

Saturday and Sunday, 10/26 - 10/27; 10am - 4pm

Boo! at the Zoo, Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield

This not-so-scary and fun-filled event has something for the entire family to enjoy, including candy stations, a pumpkin smasher, crafts, a hayride, specialty food and drink, and tons of themed activities.

Fall Color Walk, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland

Enjoy the colorful leaves of sassafras yellow, black cherry red and black oak orange during a 2-mile walk.

Costumes are encouraged for this family-friendly hike through the woods. Learn about the colors and camouflage animals wear and find treats along the way.

Red Gate Woods: Beginning of the Atomic Age, Sagawau Environmental Learning Center, Lemont

What happened in a southwestern forest preserve that changed the world? Meet at Sagawau for a presentation, then drive to Red Gate Woods and hike to the site of the world’s first nuclear reactor. Ages 16 and up. Registration required.

Free, hands-on workshops for individuals and families, teaching basic camping skills. All ages. Children 16 and under with adult.

Join us on a bison history hike along our prairie to discuss the importance of these magnificent grazers. Selfies with a life size bison will delight visitors of all ages.
