Summary: The Forest Preserves proposes to apply for a Boat Access Area Development (“BAAD”) grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (“IDNR”) that would cover $80,000 of the total estimated project cost or $167,108 ($139,254 plus 20% contingency) to construct a new canoe and kayak launch at Schuth’s Grove along the Des Plaines River in Proviso Township. The addition of this launch would enhance the Forest Preserves’ paddling infrastructure and improve water recreation amenities for the people of Cook County. The IDNR grant application process requires confirmation by the controlling body of the Forest Preserves of its commitment to complete the project. If awarded the grant, the Forest Preserves would enter into a grant agreement with IDNR, subject to legal review and approval.
