Summary: The Forest Preserves has been awarded a grant from the CCDOTH through the Invest in Cook program in the amount of $176,000.00 for Phase 2 engineering services for the Des Plaines River Trail Bridge project. The Forest Preserves will commit a maximum of $88,000.00 of the total estimated cost of the project $264,000.00 ($220,000.00 plus 20% contingency). CCDOTH’s Invest in Cook program helps cover the cost of planning and feasibility studies, engineering right-of-way acquisition, and construction associated with transportation improvements sponsored by local and regional governments and private partners. This grant would build on a 2017 Invest in Cook grant for Phase 1 engineering for the project (17-0357). The project would benefit Cook County residents and visitors by improving both alternative transportation and outdoor recreation opportunities. Final agreement is subject to legal review and approval.
