Pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Chicago (“Chicago/Cook MOU”) Cook County has been allocated a portion of the 2017 JAG Grant. Pursuant to the Chicago/Cook MOU, the County may allocate its portion of the 2017 JAG Grant to eligible entities for locally determined public safety purposes consistent with the JAG Program guidelines that serve Cook County and the mission of the JAG Program. Under the proposed intergovernmental agreement, Cook County, through its DHSEM, will provide a subaward to the Forest Preserves for it to acquire one (1) canine. The canine will assist in search and rescue requests, in the detection of contraband and in other efforts where police canines are needed.
