Glide through the holidays at the new Chicago Wolves Skating Rink at Brookfield Zoo! Skaters are welcome to bring their own skates, or rent skates on site.

Stars, Stories, and S’mores, Caldwell Woods, Chicago
Join us for a family-friendly evening in the Forest Preserves. There will be a cozy fire, s’mores, storytelling, astronomy, night hikes, and natural material building.

Archery 101, Swallow Cliff Woods North, Chicago
Attend this session to learn all things archery: history, bow parts, and proper technique. Ages 10 and up. Equipment provided.

Where do birds build their nests? With leaves off the trees, we can find out.

Sow the seeds of history in this hands-on program. Hat, gloves, sturdy shoes, long pants and long-sleeved shirt recommended. Registration required.

46th Annual Settlers’ Day, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland
Experience costumed living-history demonstrators, history hikes, crafts, an imaginary wagon train adventure and more. Admission free; nonperishable food or money donations benefitting a local food depository gratefully accepted.

Turkey Trot Hike, Trailside Museum of Natural History, River Forest
Walk off that turkey dinner on a special post-holiday guided hike on our trails. Registration required.

Wonderland Express, Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe
Wonderland Express, Chicago’s favorite seasonal event, is back for the holidays. The exhibition transforms the Regenstein Center into a magical holiday haven, full of trains, lights, and botanical decorations - mini-replicas of beloved Chicago landmarks and sites, all handcrafted from natural materials such as leaves, bark, and moss. This family-friendly tradition includes special events such as caroling and ice sculpting. Fees apply.

1-2:45 pm if there is a base of 4” snow on snowshoes with a short lesson. Limited number of snowshoes available; registration required at least 3 days prior to reserve snowshoes.
