Kayak nearly 6 miles of the Des Plaines River from Maywood Grove to Plank Road Meadow. Instruction, equipment and kayaks provided. Ages 5 and up; prior experience a plus. Registration required, call 312-533-5751

American Craft Exposition, Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe
The American Craft Exposition is a highly competitive juried show and sale of fine crafts, featuring one-of-a-kind handcrafted artwork and luxury collections from the country’s leading craftspeople. Tickets required for entrance. The Garden trolley to the Glencoe Metra station meets trains between 9:30am and 5:30pm for the three-day event.

Fall Bulb Festival, Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe
Buy bulbs in advance from August 17 through September 29. Choose bulbs from the online catalog at cihcagobotanc.org/bulb. Pre-order larger quantities and pick up your bulbs at the Fall Bulb Festival.
The festival weekend is also a great destination for families to admire the gourd mountain, explore he hay bale maze, and buy treats at the outdoor marketplace. Expect live music, family drop-in activities, and cider, wine, beer, and light fare available for purchase. There will be a farm-stand filled with produce from Windy City Harvest, the Garden’s urban agriculture program, and a marketplace with kettle corn, roasted nuts, fresh jam, honey, and baked goods.
