Summary: As part of its Green Infrastructure Program, the MWRD proposes to contribute the lesser of $319,933 or 63.8% of the estimated total final project cost of $501,463, for the Forest Preserves to retrofit approximately 41,850 square feet of existing asphalt parking lot with porous unit paving, remove the remaining 50,850 square feet of asphalt parking lot and restore the area to natural open space. The green infrastructure components of the project shall be designed by the Forest Preserves to capture up to 94,212 gallons of storm water per rain event. This project is intended to reduce direct discharge of storm water runoff to the Des Plaines River, in order to help reduce downstream flooding and improve in-stream water quality.
