Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE FIRST U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL LEED PLATINUM-CERTIFICATION FOR THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT OF COOK COUNTY ROLLING KNOLLS PAVILION WHEREAS, on November 16, 2017, the U.S. Green Building Council certified the Forest Preserves' Rolling Knolls Pavilion as LEED Platinum, the Council's highest designation. The Rolling Knolls Pavilion, located near Elgin, Illinois, provides year-round amenities for Forest Preserve visitors, including an 18-hole disc golf course and walking trails; and WHEREAS, LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and awards Platinum certification to those projects that meet exceptional sustainable design standards; and WHEREAS, the Rolling Knolls Pavilion was partially funded with generous support from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, whose mission is to improve energy efficiency, advance development and use of renewable energy resour...

RECOGNIZING THE FIRST U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL LEED PLATINUM-CERTIFICATION FOR THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT OF COOK COUNTY ROLLING KNOLLS PAVILION

WHEREAS, on November 16, 2017, the U.S. Green Building Council certified the Forest Preserves' Rolling Knolls Pavilion as LEED Platinum, the Council's highest designation. The Rolling Knolls Pavilion, located near Elgin, Illinois, provides year-round amenities for Forest Preserve visitors, including an 18-hole disc golf course and walking trails; and

WHEREAS, LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and awards Platinum certification to those projects that meet exceptional sustainable design standards; and

WHEREAS, the Rolling Knolls Pavilion was partially funded with generous support from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, whose mission is to improve energy efficiency, advance development and use of renewable energy resources, and protect natural areas and wildlife habitat in communities across Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Farr Associates, an award-winning architectural firm known for its innovative and sustainable design and commitment to having a positive impact on human and natural communities, designed the Rolling Knolls Pavilion; and

WHEREAS, the Rolling Knolls Pavilion is the Forest Preserves' first Platinum-certified building, and joins the Forest Preserves' two LEED Gold-certified nature centers (Little Red School House and Sagawau Environmental Learning Center) and Silver-certified pavilion at Swallow Cliff; and

WHEREAS, the Rolling Knolls Pavilion and the Forest Preserves' other LEED certified buildings all contribute to a more sustainable future, as well as provide opportunities for the public to learn about green technology and energy efficiencies; and
