Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT ILLINOIS TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM GRANT FUNDS WHEREAS, The Forest Preserve District of Cook County (the "Preserves") is applying for a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation's Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP); and WHEREAS, the ITEP grant, if funded, would provide funding for the development of wayfinding and information signage and other streetscape improvements and archaeological interpretation at two Forest Preserve "gateway sites" located in south Cook County: Sand Ridge/Shabbona/Green Lake Campus near Calumet City and Eggers Grove in Chicago, Illinois, hereafter referred to as "the Project"; and WHEREAS, the Project would also include research and analysis by the Illinois State Archaeological Survey of artifacts found on Preserves property in the Calumet region that have been impacted by road construction in the region; and WHEREAS, the funding would allow for the interpretation and creat...

TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT ILLINOIS TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM GRANT FUNDS

WHEREAS, The Forest Preserve District of Cook County (the "Preserves") is applying for a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation's Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP); and

WHEREAS, the ITEP grant, if funded, would provide funding for the development of wayfinding and information signage and other streetscape improvements and archaeological interpretation at two Forest Preserve "gateway sites" located in south Cook County: Sand Ridge/Shabbona/Green Lake Campus near Calumet City and Eggers Grove in Chicago, Illinois, hereafter referred to as "the Project"; and

WHEREAS, the Project would also include research and analysis by the Illinois State Archaeological Survey of artifacts found on Preserves property in the Calumet region that have been impacted by road construction in the region; and

WHEREAS, the funding would allow for the interpretation and creation of an exhibit at the Sand Ridge Nature Center related to the artifacts and cultural history of Calumet region; and

WHERAS, the Project is located within a proposed Calumet National Heritage Area; and

WHEREAS, the proposed Project would advance the goals of the Preserves' Next Century Conservation Plan to connect people and nature and increase awareness of the Preserves' natural and cultural history; and

WHEREAS, the Preserves is submitting a grant request for $440,000.00 and will provide a match not to exceed $110,000.00 that represents a 20% match of the total estimated project cost of $550,000.00; and

WHEREAS, if awarded, the project would likely begin in February 2018 and end in February 2022.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Board of Commissioners approves the Preserves applying for the above-referenced grant, and if the Preserves is awarded such grant, approves the Preserves entering into a grant agreement for such ...
