Summary: On 6/24/2013, the District issued a Request for Qualifications for Phase I, II and III Engineering Services for the Sand Ridge Bicycle Trail. An agreement for Phase I Engineering was executed between Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (“CCBEL”) and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (the “District”) and all Phase I Engineering is now complete. The next project step is Phase II Engineering, which includes the preparation of plans and specifications for approximately 1.3 miles of bicycle trail from Sand Ridge Nature Center to Green Lake Aquatic Center funded with ITEP funding administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. CBBEL was selected to complete Phase II Engineering Services based on its qualifications and familiarity with the project based on completion of Phase I work. The using department provided a sole source justification for this procurement.
The professional fees for Phase II Engineering services shall not exceed $50,000.00. Of the total fees, ITEP will fund 80% ($40,000.00), and the District is responsible for the remaining 20% ($10,000.00).
At each phase of the project, IDOT requires that the District enter into Local Agency and Engineering Service Agreements for Federal Participation to reaffirm the District’s funding commitment for 20% of the total project cost.end
