Summary: The Forest Preserves of Cook County (the "Preserves") previously entered into an agreement with Friends of the Forest Preserves ("FOTFP"), based on FOTFP's receipt of a grant from the Bobolink Foundation to support the Palos Conservation Corps. The Palos Conservation Corps engages four (4) youth, one (1) adult leader, and one (1) assistant leader in hands-on ecological restoration work to restore habitat in the Palos region. Highly skilled participants contribute to herbaceous and woody invasive species control, prescribed burn, and native seed collection activities. Additionally, the Palos Conservation Corps hosts volunteer workdays in partnership with the local site stewards to bolster volunteer recruitment and engagement in the region.
The original contract was approved by the Board on 6/7/2016 and required the Preserves to contribute $75,000 of the total $247,590 contract costs.
