Summary:  The Nature Conservancy recently received a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to complete hydrologic restoration in the Calumet region. The Preserves have been subawarded a portion of these funds to complete the construction of a water level control structure and other site improvements which will restore the hydrology of approximately 40 acres of hemi-marsh habitat at Eggers Marsh. The restoration of water flow at the site will improve nesting conditions and provide quality habitat for rare wetland birds.

The hydrologic recovery plan being implemented was developed by a consultant as part of a 2014 grant awarded to the Preserves through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Program.
