Request:  requesting authorization for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (the “Preserves”) to enter into a Partnership Agreement with Friends of the Forest Preserves (“FOTFP”), Chicago, Illinois.

 

Reason:  The Preserves seek to partner with Friends of the Forest Preserves to host the “Forest Preserve Experience” program, a summer youth employment program that will provide conservation and job skills training to high-school youth, ages 15 to 19, from underserved communities throughout Cook County. This 4-week program will engage three (3) site leaders, six (6) community mentor leaders, and 100 youth participants in hands-on ecological restoration activities including, but not limited to, invasive species removal, tree mulching, and shoreline cleanup along the Preserves’ many lakes and waterways. 

 

Participants will receive extensive environmental education and job skills training supplemented by nature-based recreational activities which promote forest preserve awareness, and teaches participates how healthy forest preserves contribute to their community and quality of life. 

 

Friends of the Forest Preserves will be the supervisory partner for this program.

 

Contract period:  7/5/2016 - 7/29/2016

 

Fiscal Impact: $220,000.00
