Transmitting a Communication dated February 2, 2012 from

ARNOLD RANDALL, General Superintendent

Requesting authorization for the District to enter into a cost sharing agreement with the Chicago Horticultural Society (a/k/a the Chicago Botanic Gardens) for the purpose of allocating costs associated with the District's North Branch Bicycle Trail Lake Cook Road Extension.

Reason: The District and Chicago Horticultural Society (the "Society") have sought and obtained federal funding to design and construct a new multi-use cycling and pedestrian trail extension along the Northern border of District land, along Lake Cook Road, for the purpose of connecting two popular bike trails: The District's North Branch Bicycle Trail and the Green Bay Bike Trail. The total costs of the project are projected to be approximately $1,710,490, of which federal funds totaling $1,154,101 are anticipated and the remaining costs are to be shared by the District and the Society.

In light of the fact that a substantial portion of the trail improvements will be constructed on land controlled by the Society, the Society's share of the expenses not covered by federal funds shall be greater than the District's and the District's share of the costs is capped at $100,000.00.
