WHEREAS, Billy Casper, an extraordinary man and visionary leader who was dedicated to golf, family and community has died at the age of 83. He has left behind a devoted family, countless friends, a successful business, and a community profoundly enriched for having known him; and WHEREAS, Billy Casper's career began on a homemade golf hole in a New Mexico pasture during the Great Depression culminated with extraordinary success and being named one of the top 20 golf players in history by Sports Illustrated; and WHEREAS, Billy Casper was referred to as "the best putter on the planet," he played on eight consecutive Ryder Cup teams amassing more points (23.5) than any other American golfer. WHEREAS, Billy Casper, an extraordinary man and visionary leader who was dedicated to golf, family and community has died at the age of 83. He has left behind a devoted family, countless friends, a successful business, and a community profoundly enriched for having known him; and

WHEREAS, Billy Casper's career began on a homemade golf hole in a New Mexico pasture during the Great Depression culminated with extraordinary success and being named one of the top 20 golf players in history by Sports Illustrated; and

WHEREAS, Billy Casper was referred to as "the best putter on the planet," he played on eight consecutive Ryder Cup teams amassing more points (23.5) than any other American golfer. He won the Vardon Trophy five times and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978 and the PGA Hall of Fame in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Billy Casper was passionate about giving back to the community and ensuring that young people from all walks of life have the opportunity to play golf. Casper founded the Billy Casper Youth Foundation in 1992 and for more than 20 years hosted the annual Billy's Kids Golf Classic and Corporate Cup at San Diego Country Club. The tournament raised more than $3,000,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Diego, Junior Achievement of San Diego, the Down Syndrome Connection, the San Diego Junior Golf Association, and other non-profit organizations; and

WHEREAS, Billy Casper's extended family includes more than 7,600 employees of Billy Casper Golf, a company founded by Billy Casper more than 20 years ago and has grown to become the largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S; and

WHEREAS, Billy Casper is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Shirley Franklin Casper, 11 children, six of whom are adopted, and 71 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
