Report Title: USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service Grant through the Great Lakes Regional Initiative

Summary: The Forest Preserve District of Cook County (the "Preserves") has received a grant award from the USDA Natural Resource conservation Service (NRCS) to support restoration activities at Turnbull Woods in Glencoe, Illinois. These USDA NRCS grant funds are provided through the Great Lakes Regional Initiative (GLRI). This project will enable the Preserve to work with GreenCorps Chicago to conduct restoration work and will engage Wild Indigo Nature Exploration Fellows to help conduct community outreach and establish volunteers for this site. This project also will improve the ecological health of Turnbull Woods, grow the Preserves' volunteer base through promotion of nature walks and volunteer workdays at the site, and advance the goals of the Preserves' Next Century Conservation Plan to ensure that native landscapes will thrive for generations and to increase hands-on volunteer opportunities.
