PROPOSED RESOLUTION

HONORING THE FOREST PRESERVES FOR RECEIVING FOUR AWARDS FROM THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY PARK AND RECREATION OFFICALS

WHEREAS, on July 12, 2014, the Forest Preserves received four awards from the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials at their annual, national awards event in New Orleans, Louisiana, which recognizes and honors excellence in county, regional and special district level parks and recreation throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, the Wild Indigo Nature Explorations program received the Park and Recreation Program - Class I award for its innovative outreach approach which is as an excellent example of how to better connect urban communities with nature and how to build advocates for biodiversity conservation; and

WHEREAS, the Next Century Conservation Plan received the Planning Initiative award for its collaborative and ambitious vision that calls for transforming the forest preserves into places that foster diversity of plants, animals, and habitats and welcomes diverse people; and

WHEREAS, the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers organization received the Outstanding Support Organization award for their exceptional contribution to trail improvements, cycling safety, and support of the mission of the Forest Preserves and nurturing positive relationships with diverse recreation users; and

WHEREAS, Gary Morrissey received the Outstanding Volunteer award for his exceptional support of the Forest Preserves' mission and for sharing his skills and love of nature to build the next generation of conservation leaders; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Arnold L. Randall, General Superintendent; Toni Preckwinkle, President; and the Board of Commissioners of the Preserves thank and congratulate the Forest Preserves' staff, program partners, and volunteers for their commitment to protect and preserve the remarkable nature of the Forest Preserves.
