Request: Authorization to apply for grant
Purpose: The Forest Preserves of Cook County (the "Preserves") proposes to apply for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (the "IDNR") to support the implementation of the Dan Ryan Woods Master Plan. The project proposes to develop a variety of outdoor recreation and environmental education features including a nature play area with accessible treehouse, new exercise stairs, an outdoor classroom, and walking paths. As part of the grant application process the IDNR requires execution of various documents by its controlling body demonstrating the Preserves commitment to completion of the project.
Grant Amount: $1,062,500.00
Grant Period: 6/2015 - 6/2017
Fiscal Impact: The Preserves Match Amount -$1,062,500.00 over a two (2) year period is contingent upon the future Forest Preserve District Board approval.

Summary: This project advances the goals of the Preserves' Centennial Campaign Plan to expand the Preserves commitment to create welcoming experiences that invite users in and educate visitors about the incredible nature and many healthy outdoor recreation opportunities that the Preserves offer.
