Summary:  The Forest Preserve District of Cook County has received a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for a project to restore habitat for the king rail (Rallus elegans), an Illinois endangered bird species, at Crabtree Preserve in Barrington, Illinois. This grant will support the restoration of 35 acres to significantly expand suitable king rail habitat, allow for the banding and monitoring of all located adults and young, document breeding success, and assess site fidelity.
