Request: Authorization for the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the "Forest Preserves") to enter into a contract with Homer Tree Service, Lockport, Illinois.
Reason: The Forest Preserves desires to remove approximately 1.8 acres of tree and brush across rare dune and swale habitat, promoting the growth of native ground-layer vegetation that is currently at great risk of decreased diversity and site extirpation due to alien competition and low light levels. A grant award has been received from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the amount of $43,000.00 with a $43,000.00 local match to support such restoration activities at Wentworth Woods in Calumet City, Illinois. These USFWS grant funds are provided through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
Homer Tree Service was the lowest, most responsible of the seven (7) bidders.
