PROPOSED RESOLUTION
APPROVAL OF A MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT EXTENDING THE TERM OF A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT NEGOTIATED BETWEEN THE FOREST PRESERVES OF COOK COUNTY AND THE SHEET METAL, AIR, RAIL & TRANSPORTATION WORKERS (SMART), LOCAL NO. 73
WHEREAS, the Illinois Public Labor Relations Act (5 ILCS 315/1 et seq.) has established regulations regarding collective bargaining with a union; and
WHEREAS, on April 5, 2022, the Board of Commissioners approved the collective bargaining agreement negotiated between the Forest Preserves of Cook County and the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Workers (SMART), Local No. 73 (Board Item No. 22-0128) with an amendment approved on January 24, 2023 (Board Item No. 22-0497) and such collective bargaining agreement will expire December 31, 2024; and
WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Agreement has been entered into between the Forest Preserves of Cook County and the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Workers (SMART), Local No. 73 to extend the term of the collective bargaining agreement through December 31, 2025; and
WHEREAS, salary adjustments and prevailing wage increases will be approved pursuant to state law for the extended term; and
WHEREAS, the Memorandum of Agreement further allows Forest Preserves employees who are members of the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Workers (SMART), Local No. 73 to be eligible for paid Parental Leave pursuant to the Cook County Bureau of Human Resources Parental Leave Policy, and addresses sick time accrual, holidays, and vehicle use matters.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby approve the terms of the Memorandum of Agreement as negotiated between the Forest Preserves of Cook County and the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Workers (SMART), Local No. 73.
