Summary: The Forest Preserves has partnered with UICVM since 2008 to conduct on-demand wildlife pathology and diagnostic services undertaken in association with wildlife research initiatives. This work allows Forest Preserves wildlife biologists to track changes in disease transmittal in wildlife communities and assess how those diseases may affect human populations. Information acquired through this analysis is dispersed throughout the health services community, including the Cook County Department of Public Health, Illinois Department of Public Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to better inform them of potential risks of zoonotic disease transmission.
The Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners initially approved an amendment to extend and increase the pre-existing agreement on 9/20/2022 (Board Item No. 22-0366).
