PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF SYLVIA M. JENKINS, Ph.D., TO THE FOREST PRESERVES OF COOK COUNTY
WHEREAS, in 2013, Dr. Sylvia M. Jenkins was appointed by President Preckwinkle and the Board of Commissioners to the Next Century Conservation Plan Commission (the "Commission") to develop a new vision for the Forest Preserves of Cook County ("Forest Preserves"); and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jenkins worked with the Commission, civic leaders, conservation advocates, and Forest Preserves' staff to successfully develop the Next Century Conservation Plan-an ambitious long-range plan to protect and care for nature in the twenty-first century; and
WHEREAS, following adoption of the Next Century Conservation Plan by the Board of Commissioners on February 18, 2014, Dr. Jenkins was appointed by the President and the Board of Commissioners to the Conservation and Policy Council of the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the "Council") where she served from 2015 to 2022, sharing her wisdom and expertise to help guide the Forest Preserves' efforts to implement the plan; and
WHEREAS, as President of Moraine Valley Community College, on November 2, 2018, Dr. Jenkins convened the Community College Conservation Summit where representatives from every community college in Cook County and the City Colleges of Chicago met to explore collaborations with the Forest Preserves for the benefit of students and the preserves; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jenkins has been a steadfast advocate for the Forest Preserves, immersing herself in the ecological diversity, programs, services and amenities the Forest Preserves offers by visiting sites throughout the preserves, and experiencing her first camping trip at Camp Reinberg.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that President Toni Preckwinkle along with the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners, General Superintendent Arnold L. Randall, and on behalf of all residents of Cook County, do hereby extend appreciation to Dr. Sylvia Jenk...
