Beaubien Woods offers urban residents a unique opportunity to experience nature and provides important habitat for plants, birds, and other wildlife. The grant award will allow the Forest Preserves to restore nine (9) new acres of wetland and prairie through invasive brush removal, herbaceous invasive species control, local seed collection, and prescribed fire, as well as enhance fourteen (14) acres of existing wetland and prairie at Beaubien Woods through ongoing herbaceous invasive species control. The project will directly benefit the preserve’s native plants and animals and enhance visitors’ experience at Beaubien Woods.
Total project costs are $60,000.00, of which the Forest Preserves will contribute $30,000.00 or 50% in direct match.
